A Story of Psyche, and Other Poems (Classic Reprint) - May Ellen Blanchard

Excerpt from A Story of Psyche, and Other Poems

Psyche, with lingering steps, moves down the mountain. Far below, Pan wakes his pipe. The notes float upward faintly.

Tell me, O drowsy roses,
Lov'd of the dew and wind and golden sun,
Where my lost love reposes
When day her lattice closes
To turn her radiant smile
Upon some happy isle
By gods unwon.

I haunt the dewy places
Where late among the blooms his steps were led,
And watch the light which traces
With sunset's fiery graces
